Vehicle Licence Application/SORN Declaration and Registration Document/Certificate

What is the renewal reminder?The renewal reminder, is issued by DVLA before the expiry date of a tax disc or SORN declaration. The Vehicle Licence Application/SORN Declaration has a Reference Number on the front. This reference number can be used to apply for a tax disc or declare SORN on our website or using our telephone service.
What is a Registration Certificate?The V5C is a vehicle Registration Certificate. It:
  • shows the vehicle's registered keeper (this is the person or company who keeps the vehicle, not necessarily the legal owner)
  • gives the keeper's name and address, the vehicle's registration number and other information about the vehicle; and
  • is issued each time we update our records after details have changed.
Where can I find the Document Reference Number?The document reference number is found on the vehicle's Registration Certificate.
