Site search hints and tips
We've tried to make the search options as easy as possible, but if you're having trouble finding the information you want, this guide will help you.
How should I use keywords?
Use keywords that are as specific as possible. For example, if you want information on the job of a quantity surveyor, put both these words in, not just surveyor.
Refine search results?
If you find that your search has returned too many results you might want to consider refining your search. You can refine your search by adding other keywords to your search or by using the handy keyword tool that can filter your results to make them more accurately reflect the information you are looking for. The filters can be found to the right hand side of your results.
How do I find information on a particular topic?
If you enter a subject in the search box it will bring up careers information, features and forum discussions on this subject. For example, if you enter ‘electrician’ you will be pointed towards job profiles, advice articles and forum discussions which contain the word 'electrician' in the main text. Click on the title of the job profile, advice article or discussion thread of your choice.
How do I find out about different jobs?
To find jobs you're interested in, enter keyword(s) into the search box. This will find job profiles that mention this word either in the title or the main text.
For example, if you enter 'driver' it will find jobs connected with driving such as taxi driver and van driver. Click on the job title to go to the job profile of your choice.
You can carry out a more specific search if you enter two or more words such as 'train driver'. This will find job profiles that contain 'train' and job profiles that contain 'driver', but not necessarily together. However, if the two words do appear together this profile will be close to the top of the list.
