The National Careers Service website "Website" https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/ is operated by the Skills Funding Agency.

The Skills Funding Agency is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Notice sets out how we both use and protect the personal information that you provide to us when you use the Website, register for a Lifelong Learning Account or use the Forums.

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

The Website can be used without giving us any information. To take advantage of the additional services such as the Lifelong Learning Account tools and services or the Forums offered by the Website, we will need to collect additional information from you for the purposes of registration. By registering for use of these services it will enable you to build a profile that you can develop and re-use. Registration involves signing up to the Lifelong Learning Account Terms and Conditions which provide information additional to this Privacy Notice.

We may collect the following types of information:

  • registration information including your name, telephone number, postal address and email address
  • information relating to Careers, Skills, Action Plans and Learning Records collected via the Lifelong Learning Account tools
  • information you provide when using the Forums
  • correspondence information you provide when contacting us
  • information regarding your contact preferences in order to provide you with further correspondence about our products and services.

WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT?

The primary use of the information that you provide to us is to enable us to provide you with an effective service as part of the overall National Careers Service.

The information we collect is also used:

  • for internal record keeping
  • to provide a service to you
  • to improve our services
  • to tell you about improvements to our service
  • to contact you by email, telephone or SMS according to your preferences for the purposes of informing you about service usage, customer satisfaction surveys, research and marketing. (You can change these contact preferences at any time by logging into your Lifelong Learning Account or by contacting the National Careers Service helpdesk on 0800 496 4665 between 8am and 10pm seven days a week.)

WHO DO WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION WITH?

The data you provide to us will not be disclosed to Third Parties other than to the suppliers we work with to deliver the Service. These include suppliers responsible for providing services to:

  • enable us to contact you by SMS, email or phone
  • enable us to carry out customer satisfaction surveys
  • help us record calls for statistical purposes
  • allow an adviser to contact you when requested
  • help us respond to you where you have a technical query

Data you provide to us may be disclosed to departments internal to the Skills Funding Agency and the Department for Business, Information and Skills.

We may also disclose your personal data where we have your permission or where we are under a duty to share your personal information in order to comply with any legal obligations.


HOW CAN YOU GET A COPY OR AMEND THE INFORMATION WE HAVE COLLECTED?

You may request details of personal information we have collected from you under the relevant Data Protection Legislation. If you would like a copy of the information we have collected from you when using the Website please write to the Agency’s Information Rights Manager, Skills Funding Agency, Cheylesmore House, Quinton Road, Coventry, CV1 2WT.

If you think the information we hold about you is incomplete or incorrect or you wish to have your details removed, please contact the National Careers Service helpdesk or call 0800 496 4665.

You can also correct the information you have provided online by signing into your Lifelong Learning account.


HOW DO WE PROTECT YOUR DATA?

We operate an extensive security policy to ensure that all reasonable efforts are made to ensure the personal information collected by the Website is both secure and protected from disclosure.

Where we send data to third parties to help us provide the service to you, we will provide those third parties with only the information they need to deliver the service, and they are prohibited from using this information for any other purpose.
