Action Plan video transcript
Developing an Action Plan can help you...whether you are looking for your first job; trying to find your next job, or want to move into a better job.
Some people know what they want to do, from an early age.
Some are also confident of the job choices they make along the way.
But for most of us it's not so simple. Choosing and managing your career is a big decision and getting the right help and advice can make all the difference.
Your Action Plan is a helpful tool that can help you towards your final goal - a number of small steps, that can help you take that really big step.
Making and taking decisions like this can often seem daunting but it really doesn't have to be - your Action Plan will allow you to work towards achievable targets and provides a map that makes staying on track and finishing the journey as simple as possible.
Most importantly, your Action Plan helps you take control in understanding where you are now, -identifying your skills and work goals -setting both short-term and long-term targets - and working out the steps you need to take, to get there.
Without it, it's a bit like going to a supermarket without a shopping list!
So before we get started on your Action Plan have a think about what's good about where you are now.
Is it fun, interesting, challenging and rewarding?
Perhaps there are other, not so obvious, reasons.
Is it relaxing, stress-free, family-friendly and flexible?
By understanding what's good about your current situation, it'll be easier to make better decisions about what you want to change... what's not so good.
Because remember, few situations are perfect and most people want to change something.
It could be that you feel taken for granted, unrewarded or like you are stuck in a rut.
Maybe you feel bored, don't have enough variety or feel you have few prospects.
By having a clear idea of what you'd like to change, you'll be in a better position to find out where you want to get to.
It could be getting a job, getting a new job or promotion or even moving towards a different type of job altogether.
What's most important is finding out what matters to you.
Finally, take some time to consider when you'd like to achieve all this.
It's important that you feel comfortable with the goals and targets you set.
You're more likely to stay on track, if you don't try and do too much, too soon.
