Top industry career tips from Asset Skills

Sector Skills Council Asset Skills has launched a new website packed with insider information to help you get ahead in facilities management, property, cleaning, parking and housing. If you’re practically-minded and care about the quality of people’s living and working environments, a job in this sector could be ideal for you.

The site features:

  • in-depth sector guides, giving you key information such as predicted job trends
  • job profiles, explaining more about the individual jobs
  • videos, offering an overview of the sectors
  • case studies, featuring honest opinions from people working in the industries
  • progression routes, showing you how you can get on through further study.

You’ll get the inside track on what’s happening now and what’s likely to happen in the future in each of the job areas. For instance, in property you’ll find out that there’s a campaign to attract more women into the industry; and that there’s an ageing workforce, which could mean more opportunities coming up to replace retiring staff.

Many of the jobs in these industries are working ‘behind the scenes’ but they are essential to the smooth running of the country. Most of them are also jobs where you’d be out and about, so if you don’t want a desk job you could find what you’re looking for here.

If you care about the environment there are jobs in these industries where you can make a real difference. As a domestic or commercial energy assessor you would give householders and businesses advice on how to improve their energy efficiency. And in the new role of Green Deal Advisor you would be trying to make it easier for homes and businesses to switch to energy efficient technologies.

For more information about jobs in these areas, visit the new Asset Skills Careers website.
