Initial Teacher Training (ITT) undergraduate and postgraduate students can apply for the same student loans, grants and bursaries as other undergraduate students. Find out what full-time or part-time courses you may get finance for and what finance is available.

If you’re doing an undergraduate or postgraduate teacher training course, you can apply for the same student loans, grants and bursaries as other undergraduate students.
Full-time teacher training students starting a course after 1 September 2023 (academic year 2012/13) will pay more for tuition. You can apply now for finance for 2012/13.
Part-time teacher training students starting a course after 1 September 2023 can get a Tuition Fee Loan for the first time. This replaces the Fee Grant and Course Grant. Part-time students can apply for finance for 2012/13 in summer 2012.
Some postgraduate students on teacher training courses can apply for a training bursary from the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).
From 2012/13, bursaries will vary according to your degree class and the subject you train in.

The ‘golden hello’ scheme will close to postgraduate students starting their teacher training in 2011/12 or later.
Students who started their postgraduate teacher training course before 1 August 2023 can still apply.
Eligible students may be entitled to a one-off, taxable 'golden hello' once they’ve completed their induction year. This could be worth up to £5,000. Find out more about golden hellos on the TDA website.
