Most of the items inspected in the Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) scheme are the same as those that are tested when manufacturers apply for type-approval of mass-produced vehicles. Find out below what components are examined during an SVA inspection.
The following table lists the items inspected for the two levels of SVA for light goods ‘Special Purpose’ vehicles. All of the items for Standard SVA are checked at the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) test station. However, items for Enhanced SVA (ESVA) cannot be checked at the test station. You will need to provide documentary evidence for such items to show compliance as explained below.
Items checked during SVA | Additional items for the Enhanced SVA |
---|---|
Exhaust emissions |
Evidence of compliance with type-approval standard or acceptable alternative.
May require independent test. |
Brakes |
Evidence of compliance with type-approval standard or acceptable alternative. |
Noise and silencers |
Evidence of compliance with type-approval standard or acceptable alternative.
May require independent test. |
Vehicles having an ESVA inspection will have to meet the Standard SVA requirements as well as the additional safety, environmental and security items listed above. Vehicles will be examined at a VOSA test station to make sure they align with any documentary evidence provided.
