Local sports facilities

Everybody should have the opportunity to get involved in sport. There are many organisations and groups dedicated to a particular sport. Many are involved in supporting disabled people.

Finding out about local sports facilities

Your local council's leisure or social services department should have details about facilities, sports clubs and other initiatives in your area.

Your local library should also be a good source of information.

Leisure passes

Some councils provide leisure passes to residents. Pass holders can use specified facilities at a discounted rate. The following link will take you to your local authority website where you can find out more and apply for a leisure pass online.

This service is only available for councils in England.

Sport England's Active Places database

Sport England operates the Active Places database, which includes information on a wide range of sports facilities.

Active Places lets you search for facilities by location and/or type of facility. It's a good way to find things such as your nearest fitness centre, swimming pool or athletic track. There is accessibility information for every facility.

Disability sports organisations

There are several national sports organisations representing types of disability, for example learning difficulties or visual impairments.

There are also many organisations dedicated to a particular sport that include disability sport. For example, the British Tennis Foundation runs a programme of tennis for disabled people.

As well as regional contact lists, organisations give support and information on equipment, coaching education, award schemes, events and development of the relevant sport.
