Terrorism

Terrorism is a continuing threat to the public. Intelligence and security operations are in place to protect the public from this serious threat. These organisations can also provide information on how you can protect yourself and others by being aware of your surroundings and alert to the risk of terrorism.

Public advice on terrorism

Security threats can vary on a daily basis and even throughout the day. If you need an update on the threat level of an area or building, or have information about suspicious activity, contact the organisations below.

Responding to a terrorist alert

You should always remain alert to the danger of terrorism and report suspicious activity:

  • in an emergency call 999
  • call the Anti-Terrorist hotline on 0800 789 321 to report any suspicious activity
  • email the Security Service (MI5) if you have information which could help keep your community safe

Intelligence agencies

Intelligence.gov.uk is a new website that gives information about national intelligence in the United Kingdom. Details on how the various intelligence and security agencies work together are available alongside career opportunities and links to individual websites.

Preventing misuse of fertiliser

The website from the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) provides specialist advice about the security of explosives and pre-cursor chemicals (including fertilisers), pathogens and toxins, radiological sources and other toxic chemicals.
