Scope

This privacy statement only applies to this search facility (jobseekers.direct.gov.uk). It does not apply to other areas of Directgov nor any other website. When you move to another site, you should read their privacy statement.

This service includes links to a number of external websites which are outside the scope of this privacy statement. If you want to know how these websites collect and use personal information, you should read their privacy policies.

Data protection

Jobcentre Plus respects your privacy and seeks to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998, which meets the standards agreed within the European Union.

This service (jobseekers.direct.gov.uk) does not require you to provide any personal information. The use of the email alert facility within My searches does require a valid email address, but the use of this facility is entirely optional and email addresses will only be used for the purpose of sending job email alerts. See below for more information about My searches and email alerts.

Any data that is held will be adequate, relevant and not excessive for the purpose for which it is to be processed.  Any data held will not be linked with any other data held by the Department for Work and Pensions.

Jobcentre Plus will be responsible for ensuring the site and data are managed securely.  Appropriate technical and organisational measures will be taken against unauthorised or unlawful access to or processing of any personal data or loss or destruction of data.

No personal information about you will be retained in the form of 'cookies'.

My searches

If you wish to use the My searches facility, you must provide a username and password but you need not use your real name or any other words that might reveal your identity.

Within My searches you can choose to set up an email alert. To do so, you will need to register a valid email address. This email address will only be used by Jobcentre Plus for the purpose of sending you job email alerts.

All My searches registration information, including email addresses will be securely held and only used for the professed purposes of this service.

My searches registration details can be manually deleted by the user, by logging into My searches and using the delete registration options. My searches accounts which are not used will be automatically deleted after 3 months of inactivity. Whether accounts are deleted manually by the user or automatically, deletion will remove all user information, including email addresses.

Social bookmarking

The social bookmarking services that Directgov links to are third party websites. Directgov does not have any control over the way that these websites use your data.  You should read their respective privacy policies carefully to find out what happens to any data that these services collect when you use them.
