Key ministerial posts announced

David Cameron, leader of the Conservative Party, has been appointed the new Prime Minister. He has formed a new government in coalition with the Liberal Democrats. The Cabinet has been appointed and major ministerial positions announced.

Changes to government departments

HM Treasury

The Chancellor has announced a new Office for Budget Responsibility to assess the state of the nation's finances.

Department for Education

A new Department for Education (DfE) has been created, replacing the old Department for Children Schools and Families.

Prime Minister David Cameron has now formed his new Cabinet.

A total of five Cabinet posts will be filled by Liberal Democrats. This includes the appointment of Nick Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, as Deputy Prime Minister.
