Macular degeneration and driving

Macular degeneration is a condition that you may need to tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) about. Find out which questionnaire you need to complete for the driving licence you hold.

Car or motorcycle driving licence holders

If you have macular degeneration in one eye

If you have macular degeneration in one eye - you will not need to tell DVLA about your medical condition provided you have no medical condition in the other eye.

For future reference you may wish to download the vision information leaflet 'VIS1'.

If you have macular degeneration in both eyes

If you have macular degeneration in both eyes - you will need to tell DVLA about your medical condition.

To tell DVLA please download the medical questionnaire 'V1' and send it to DVLA.

Bus, coach or lorry driving licence holders

If you hold a bus, coach or lorry driving licence - you will need to tell DVLA if you have macular degeneration in one eye or both eyes.

To tell DVLA please download the medical questionnaire 'V1V' and send it to DVLA.

You can send your completed questionnaire to DVLA by fax or post.
