The Gambling Commission is a non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It provides independent advice to the government. Its work is funded mainly by licence fees from the gambling industry.
The Gambling Commission regulates gambling in the public interest by keeping crime out of gambling, ensuring gambling is conducted openly and fairly, and by protecting children and vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling. It has responsibility for the regulation of betting, casinos, bingo halls, gaming machines, lotteries and remote gambling.
