The Care Quality Commission is the new health and social care regulator for England. It takes over the roles of the Commission for Social Care Inspection, the Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Commission, which were all abolished on 31st March 2009.
The new Commission regulates health and adult social care services in England, whether they're provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations, and protects the rights of people detained under the Mental Health Act. Formerly known as Commission for Social Care Inspection.
